In Paris you really are spoiled for choice for classy bars and clubs. Here are the ones that we choose when we’re in town.
In summer the terrace is packed with pretty, posing Parisians, serenaded by Pigalelle street singers. Sounds strange, but it’s really rather cool. It is well worth getting a cocktail or a beer here, especially as the prices are so good.
Le Bar Dix
If you want authenticity? Head to Le Bar Dix. This local sangria soaked dive hasn’t changed since 1955. Tobacco stained posters an original jukebox and moustachioed barmen serving beers, chorizo and cheese sandwiches. Sometimes simple is all you need.
Café Charbon has been going for a 100 years and you will see that it’s still got that cool old style vibe, including shiny bar and tarnished mirrors. Underneath the bar, DJs play at the weekends. Although if you do go at a weekend, be warned it gets rammed later on.
Galeries Nationales du Grand Palais
Technically not a palace at all, but a Belle-Epoque era architectural treasure, the Grand Palais (Great Palace) is the place to see some of Paris’ finest art exhibitions. The Galeries Nationales offers incredible displays from the likes of Claude Monet and Georges Braque. Meanwhile, the adjoining Palais de la Découverte (Palace of Discovery) focuses on science and natural history. Top tip: you will need to buy your tickets separately for exhibits at the National Galeries and the Palais de la Découverte and we highly recommend you pre-book online if you can, as the Grand Palais' temporary exhibits are immensely popular and many people book weeks or even months in advance.
Le Zero Zero
This place gets packed. Really packed. But once you squeeze through the door, you’ll soon find yourself dancing along with everyone else. There’s a genuinely friendly party atmosphere. All powered by some great cocktails – make sure you try the venue’s famous tipple, the Zéro Zéro.
If you like your elector-pop, head here. Grab a beer or a cocktail and between 6pm and 9pm enjoy half price cheese and charcuterie. Be sure to get a seat on one of the comfy sofas so you can sit back and chill out with your mates as the DJs do their thing..
