The Bridge of Sighs

No, not a Mills & Boon steamy novel - The "Bridge of Sighs" was built in 1913, between two buildings of Hertford College and is close to the Radcliffe Camera. It is named after the Bridge of Sighs in Venice, but in fact looks nothing like it! Visitors can take a walk underneath the bridge to the Turf Tavern, a popular pub with tourists and students alike and ponder life's eternal questions; "What is love?", "How many stars are in the sky?", and "How does the man who drives the snow plough get to work?"

Ashmolean Museum

Founded in 1683, the Ashmolean Museum is the most important museum of art and archaeology outside London. It is designated as a Collection of national importance. Among its treasures are the largest and most important Collection of Raphael drawings in the world, the most important Collection of pre-Dynastic Egyptian material outside Cairo, the only great Minoan Collection outside Heraklion, and the greatest Anglo-Saxon Collections outside the British Museum.

Bate Collection of Musical Instruments

'The Bate' is England's most comprehensive collection of European woodwind, brass and percussion instruments. Its 1,500 exhibits include the Michael Thomas Collection of spinets and harpsichords and instruments from the Roger Warner and Taphouse Collections of early keyboards; a 'must visit' for all interested instrumentalists!

Bill Spectre's Oxford Ghost Trail

This intriguing and entertaining walk of old Oxford is conducted by a costumed professional actor; your personal ghostly guide for this spooky stroll amongst the most haunted sites of Oxford.

Bodleian Library

See one of the greatest libraries at the heart of the historic university. Visit the Divinity School, a masterpiece of English Gothic architecture, & the Duke Humfrey's medieval library.

Carfax Tower

Fourteenth-century west tower of the former city church of St Martin. The clock on the eastern side chimes every quarter hour. Superb views of Oxford's 'dreaming spires'.

Cherwell Boathouse

Combining a restaurant, cafe, and punt station with plenty of outdoor space and a beautiful terrace from where to relax and enjoy the surroundings. With over 70 hand built boats available for hire, it's surely worth a punt!

Christ Church College

Christ Church has been a site of religious worship since the Seventh Century. The present cathedral was built in the Twelfth Century, and contains the shrine and tomb of St Frideswide, Oxford's patron saint. With evocative daily choir services, Christ Church College, with its Cathedral, meadow and picture gallery is really worth visiting. Intrinsic Oxford!

Blenheim Palace

Just a few miles north of Oxford is Blenheim Palace, a world heritage site, home of the Duke of Marlborough and birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. The main attraction is the palace itself but the grounds and gardens too are truly impressive. The name Blenheim derives from a decisive battle that took place on the 13th August 1704 here.
