Fun things to do

Edinburgh Castle

Dramatically sited on top of an extinct volcano, majestic Edinburgh Castle is steeped in history. Take a tour and discover its secrets, enjoying spectacular views across the city. Make sure you see Scotland's Crown Jewels - the crown, sword and sceptre are amongst the oldest regalia in Europe.

Haunted History & Ghost Tours

The closes and courtyards of Edinburgh's Old Town are choc-full of strange sights, ghouls and legends. Take a light-hearted tour of Edinburgh's dark past on a ghost tour and hear tales of hangings, witchcraft and invasion. But watch out for 'jumper-ooters'!

Whisky Distillery Tour

You can’t visit Edinburgh without sampling the national drink. We’re not talking Irn Bru but whisky - which the locals call ‘the water of life’. Learn about the various processes involved in making Scotland's national drink with a visit to the Scotch Whisky Heritage Centre…with the obligatory tasting opportunity!

Shopping

Edinburgh is without doubt the shopping centre of Scotland. Unless you’re looking for Shortbread, in which case just stop at Gretna Green). From quirky boutiques to designer outlets and well stocked high street chains, you’ll find lots of ways to undergo some retail therapy. Head to Stockbridge for classy items and coffee and Princes Street for Gap and gadgetry and the Grass Market for one-off bargains.

National Museum of Scotland

Through its collections, this much-loved museum brings together the cultures of Scotland and the world. It unites art, science and natural history, and celebrates human invention and creativity. For almost 150 years, the museum has inspired millions of local people and visitors to Scotland's capital.

Edinburgh International Festival

Discover the world's finest talent in Edinburgh. The biggest and best arts festivals transform the capital every summer. National Galleries of Scotland

Art lovers are in for a treat in Edinburgh. Not only do these five impressive galleries showcase some of the best Scottish and international art in the world, but entrance to all of them is free. World-class exhibitions come to town frequently so check with us what's on the weekend you decide to go.

The Grass Market

Vintage is what The Grassmarket does brilliantly (great for the girlys). Snap up a one-off bargain in the quirky boutiques, or splash out on a designer exclusive. There are loads of great cafes and bars if you need to refuel.

Princes Street

Home to all your High Street favourites.... For everything else and a whole lot more, check out the city's most famous department store, Jenner's.

Leith

See how the city's old docks (and home of The Proclaimers) got a whole new 'Leith' of life. Explore the little shops and cafes that line the revamped streets then dock at Ocean Terminal, a swanky new shopping centre with its very own cinema, bars and restaurants.

Edinburgh Zoo

Arguably the best zoo in the British Isles, the Zoo prides itself on its conservation of animal species and wild places, through captive breeding, environmental education and scientific research. A visit is always rewarding. Marvel at how giraffes stand up, witness the regal majesty of the Lion, and inevitably gawp at what that baboon is doing with his right hand!

Stadium Tour Murrayfield

Feel the passion of Scottish Rugby for yourself by taking a behind the scenes tour of Murrayfield Stadium. Follow in the footsteps of legends as you visit the dressing rooms, player's tunnel, Royal Box, hospitality suites and the world famous pitch (but don’t tell them you’re English whatever you do!)

Po Na Na

They say: “A unique, intimate group of Moroccan themed clubs and bars showcasing cutting edge music and excellent service”. We say: always popular and rammed-to-the-rafters down-town niterie whose popularity amongst visiting groups of students knows no limits (pretty much like the groups of visiting students, then…).

Stereo Nightclub

One of Edinburgh’s most established and trustworthy venues (if you can call anywhere which happily keeps you up half the night dancing, drinking and snogging some stranger you’ve just met ‘trustworthy’!). Three rooms of music catering for all ears and tastes. Very student friendly (show yer  ID for half price admission or better still get there before midnight and its free). Affordable drinks too!

99 Hanover Street

Fun, funky and oh so cool. A great place to hang out, chill out, have a few cocktails and get to know the locals. The food's pretty good too (from what we remember?!)

The Dome

One of Outgoings faves, 'The Dome' draws a young crowd and is great for students, with regular drinks promos, great music - so why not?!

Food + Drink

You're in luck! Edinburgh is said to have the largest number of restaurants per head of population in the UK... from cosy pubs and trendy bars to some amazing restaurants.

Sales are processed online at time of booking and we will make sure that they are all distributed before you go away.

Insurance

Outgoing can provide insurance policies at 3 levels offering you comprehensive cover regardless of your budget. The policy is underwritten by Accident & General and provides an excellent 24 hour service via Europ Assistance. It's better to be safe than sorry!

Private Rooms

Some people need that extra bit of privacy - For this reason we can offer an upgrade to a twin rooms on most trips. Rooms available for an additional supplement subject to availability.
