Heineken ExperienceIt's the biggest brewery in Europe. And the 'experience' is just that; eighteen attractions set across four levels in the former brewery will intoxicate you on many counts; part museum, part theme park and part brewing, advertising and marketing exhibition - it offers a taste of the past, as well as the future. In addition to ample opportunities to sample the product itself - you & your group can even order a personalised bottle of the good stuff!! |

Coffee ShopsA responsible expression of liberalism or cloudy dens of sin and depravity? Well until you've seen for yourself what all the fuss is about, you can't really say one way or the other! Amsterdam's coffee shops legally sell soft drugs and offer a relaxed and relatively civilised opportunity to see the world through a wispy cloud whilst listening to Bob Marley... so just relax, and go with the flow.......

Peep ShowOnly in Amsterdam you'll find a museum which explores human sexuality. Once you've penetrated its errr warm, welcoming entrance, you've just got to get a photo with the two huge erect plastic phalluses (which will give you an unusual photo to send to your grandparents)...! It's not expensive to get in and definitely worth an eye full! |

Van Gogh MuseumThis treasure trove has the largest collection of Van Gogh's paintings and drawings in the world. The main exhibition chronicles the phases of Van Gogh's life, from his childhood to his various emotional stages through his death - a 'Must Do' for anyone who has ever fumbled with a felt tip or picked up a paintbrush! |

Erotic MusuemHidden away in an old warehouse in the middle of the Red Light District you'll find the Erotic Museum. Inside there's a shop with sexy souvenirs as well as re-created room of a Red Light District working girl and her place of work. In a separate room the walls are painted like in a nursery with an endless projection loop of the animated 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' (not the Disney version BTW!) flickers crude cartoon capery across the room... |

RijksmuseumAttention all culture vultures! Welcome to the vast neoclassical brick castle of the Rijksmuseum; Rijks is the Dutch national museum dedicated to arts, crafts, and history. This place boasts more 'Old Masters' than an Seniors Golf Tournament and more Dutch culture than Ruud van Nistelrooy eating Gouda in a windmill next to a canal! What's more its centrally located and admission is very reasonable. |

Anne Franks HouseAnne Frank was one of the Jewish victims of Nazi persecution during WW2. After Nazi Germany invaded the Netherlands in 1940, increasingly severe anti-Jewish measures began here as well. For over two years, the tiny annexe was a hiding place for Anne and her sister Margot. This is Amsterdam's most popular tourist attraction and is visited by a whopping 100,000 people each year. They also reckon it's haunted... |

Bloemendaal BeachA beach in Amsterdam!? Many are surprised by the fact that Amsterdam has a beach... and a great one at that. The weekends are really popular as it is only 20 minutes out of the city. By day the area is a sea of gorgeous people lounging on oversized cushions and at night there is dancing on the sand Ibiza style... It's a glamorous hippy vibe with yoga classes held in between DJ sets! |

Rembrandt HouseThree story former home and studio of the renowned Dutch master…who wasn’t quite so masterful at paying his mortgage and was evicted after living here for eighteen years. Those nasty bailiffs kept his possessions; including statues, drawings and paintings to sell off at auction. The impressive belongings - including “Remy’s” explosive collection of weapons – have survived and are all here |

Ajax StadiumExperience ‘Total Football’ at the home of Amsterdam's legendary home team. The Amsterdam Arena is Holland's Wembley (so expect Will Young Concerts and £6 burgers…only joking!). The stadium tour takes in the dressing rooms, the football museum featuring clips of the clubs greats (Cryuff, Van Basten, Van Nistelrooy etc) - and a shop where you can buy the famous white with red striped shirt advertising a major Dutch bank! |

Cassa Rosso Sex ShowOi yoi, yoi… what IS she doing with that banana…? Good grief, did you see that ping pong ball fly across the room…what on earth am I doing on a stage with my trousers around my ankles and… It’s the most famous sex show in the city and it’s naughtier than your sister's best friend… (Top tip: – never take a photo of a window girl. Many are working secretively and it's not unusual for an ‘associate’ to grab your camera and remove the film/memory stick). |

Cannabis CollegeWe’re serious! And so are they. This is a non-profit information centre based in the heart of Amsterdam, whose goal is to provide visitors from across the globe with correct, objective, and honest information regarding every aspect of the Cannabis sativa L. plant. {What you mean there’s more to learn than: 1. don’t watch sport when you’re stoned, and 2. always have some ‘Hob Nobs’ handy for later?} |

Amsterdam MarketsHolland is famous for its flowers (indeed it’s annual flower auction has erm 'blossomed' into the biggest in the World). Many local people decorate their houses and balconies with flowers, and there is nothing more evocative than wandering through one of the many markets, hearing local stall-holders coarsely clearing their throats of mucus...or are they just speaking Dutch? |

Hire a Bike (Mikes Bikes)Amsterdam is just made for bikes…literally! It’s completely flat and cyclists not only have their own lanes; they even have their own little traffic lights! The bikes themselves are really easy to ride – no macho crossbars or fiddly gear-shifting required! So saddle up, hit the handlebars and ‘go native’! |
![]() |
Canal Bus CruiseThe best way to see the city with the possible exception of a fly-past in Paris Hilton’s private plane. You’ll pass all the major landmarks AND be able to keep warm at the same time (some feat in Amsterdam in the winter months!). Most tours leave from Damrak, in front of Central Station. Top tip: take the wine and cheese tour…it’s the only way to sightsee! |

NightlifeStudents are really well catered for in Amsterdam... as befits a city built for pleasure, it has a great selection of after-dark activity; from café’s of all persuasions to some old pubs and their modern equivalent; The Supper Club (a cross between a chic wine / cocktail bar and a late-night eatery, serving incredible food which are leisurely enjoyed to the accompaniment of amazing DJ's). So whether it is in one of the cities many topless bars to the cities coolest haunts you can be sure of one thing - A GOOD TIME! |

ParadisoFormer majestic church, now somewhat dilapidated rock’n’roll hub of the ‘Dam, which hosts the coolest bands and most cutting edge dance nights (everything from Gay Pride parties to George Clinton!). Underground clubbing action is also a feature of the Paradiso – with UK acts a speciality (Filthy Dukes, Noisettes and Scratch Perverts have all appeared recently). Defnitely worth a look... |

MELKWEGThe Melkweg (Milky Way)’ is probably the most famous club and concert venue in Amsterdam, It’s cool canal side location and contemporary glass front cement its position as many Amsterdamers favourite venue. The former dairy factory now offers the cream of culture: music, theatre, dance events, photographic exhibition... |

Jimmy WooIf you want to live it up in one of Amsterdams hippest clubs then Jimmy Woo's is the place to be seen. It's where ancient Hong Kong mixes with elegant modern design... But be aware that there's a door policy here - so dress well! |
