Fun things to do

Nice Erection

Icon Alert! Nothing symbolises Paris more than the Eiffel Tower... Vintage double-decker lifts ply their way up and down the beautiful structure; At the top viewing platform you can see up to 65km on a good day. At night, for ten minutes at 8.00pm flashbulbs attached to the tower glow providing an absolutely beautiful effect. To avoid the queues, come after dark.

Disneyland Paris

The mother of all theme parks... well in Europe anyway. The biggest rides, the most famous characters and the very latest Special FX experiences conspire to create a magical kingdom of fun, fantasy…

Outgoing Tip: to avoid the queues get us to organise your tip outside school holidays... or arrive later in the day and ‘cherry pick' your rides.

Close

The Louvre

Much like the building itself, the Louvre's collections were built up over the centuries. They encompass a rich visual history of the western world, from Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia to the 19th century. This place is very much in touch with the present as well as the past: there's a dedicated audio guide to the buildings links with Dan Brown's 'Da Vinci Code'. Leave plenty of time as there's really so much to see.

Moulin Rouge & Montmatre

Marking the artists quarter, this most photogenic of hills (Sacre Coeur is the icing to a very picturesque cake) is best experienced on a Sunday morning. Timeless, romantic…and you’ll feel you’re in a rom com movie.

Arc De Triomph

Another iconic structure which won't cost you a cent to enjoy: built by Napoleon as a monument to the achievements of his armies (ironically his empire began to collapse almost immediately). French troops finally got their victory march through it at the end of World War I and the annual Bastille Day military procession now starts here. Climb the stairs for wonderful views, a fully renovated interior and a new museum, which opened last year with interactive displays.

Notre Dame

Iconic, gothic church on its very own island in the middle of the Seine. We’ve a hunch you’ll enjoy walking around this imposing place of worship and if you’re smart you’ll time your visit to hear the bells, the bells, the bells… More dramatic than an X Factor final and just like you it looks better at night!

Sacre Coeur

Sacre Coeur on this enormous mock Romano-Byzantine edifice began in 1877. it stands on Monmarte, overlooking the artists and small shops and is a Parisian as Gerard Depardieu smoking a Gitanes, whilst arguing on the stairs with Audrey Tautou. Although admission is free, it's well worth spending 5 Euros to visit the spooky crypt.

Palais-Royal

Built for Cardinal Richelieubut made famous by the fact that the (not at all) shy retiring Louis XIV lived here with his mum, before moving to an even more impressive gaff ( Versailles). Reigning longer than any medievel European Royal and with a busier lovelife than Katie Price, "The Sun King's" former home reflects his eventful life.

Place de la Concorde

No- this is not where the Worlds first supersonic commercial aircraft tragically crashed in 2000. This is the city's largest square, its grand east-west perspectives stretching from the Louvre to the Arc de Triomphe, and north-south from the Madeleine to the Assembl'e Nationale across the Seine. Expect lots of fountains and statues - and the type of architecture which makes Americans wet themselves.

Fondation Le Corbusier

Designed by Le Corbusier in 1923 for a Swiss art collector, this house shows the architect's ideas in practice, with its stilts, strip windows, roof terraces and balconies, built-in furniture and an unsuspected use of colour. Inside, Le Corbusier's own neo-Cubist paintings and furniture sit alongside pieces by Perriand. A must visit for anyone interested in design and sociology.

Shopping

Along with waiters with pert bottoms and the Can Can, Paris also gave the World the boutique and claims to be the epicentre of fashion (something Milan and Shoreditch would doubtlessly have something to say about). All the top designers have workshops here and the seasonal catwalk shows influence every high street from Madrid to Manchester.

Designer Label Central!

The Faubourg Saint-Honor' district is the pulse of Paris design and fashion. Wedged between the Louvre and Opera, the Saint-Honor' fashion district is occupied by classic designers like Versace, Hermes, and Yves Saint Laurent, but also houses resolutely avant-garde boutiques like Colette.

Bric a brac attack!

The Saint-Ouen flea market is the city's largest, and dates to the 19th century. Located at the very northern tip of Paris, les puces is an essential shopping stop. Come here for a few hours to browse the antique furniture, odd objects, or vintage clothes. You may not come away with a masterpiece painting (as once was the case), but a find you are likely to make.

Catwalk Crossroads!

Avenue Montaigne and Avenue des Champs-Elys'es' one of the city's hottest fashion junctures. Ave. Montaigne is fast outstripping Saint Honor' in notoriety, with legendary designers like Chanel and Dior lining the street. The Champs-Elys'es features luxury names (Louis Vuitton) while also being a major spot for shopping in trendy global chains like Zara.

Centre Pompidou

This majestic National Center for Art and Culture is dedicated to creating modern and contemporary works. Culture by the bucket load and inspiration from many fields of expression; drama, music, movies, books and sculpture. Great central location too! Eagle eyed visitors will notice that the building sports a rather striking approach to arcitechture (in other words - no it's not inside out!)

Nightlife

When darkness falls, the 'City of Light lives up to its name. The monuments and bridges are illuminated, and the glow of old-fashioned and modern street lamps flood the avenues and boulevards. Parisiennes start the serious part of their evenings as us Brits stretch, yawn, and announce it's time for bed. So our tip is... join in as there are some amazing bars & nightclubs perfect for the student crowd.

Our Favourite Bars & Clubs

Batofar

Dance the night away on a red boat which has been transformed into Paris’s hippest electronic music venue…quite literally in seine clubbing action!

Le Truskel

Young, trendy, Irish style pub (although they’ve got more flags than the United Nations HQ!) After-dark funky DJs host what may be the only indie night in Paris. Certainly the cheapest - it's free and runs 'til 5am! Drink prices are student-friendly, and there’s often 'after-shows' for the likes of Bloc Party, Interpol and other visiting bands.

La Loco

This is a legendary Parisian pleasure palace consisting of three dance-floors, groaning under the decibels. Every Friday from 11 p.m. the Wake Up team moves in and takes over the stage direction. Upstairs the American bar: electro, pop. On the middle floor, the house club: that's where to find the star DJ's, David Guetta, Dan Ghenacia, Didier Sinclair, etc.

Food + Drink (our teams best picks)

If we talk about eating in Paris you'll have many possibilities where to choose from, this city has the most beautiful and charming restaurants that you'll probably see in all France.
